Conventions Of a Thriller

The conventions shown in Zodiac to show this film is a thriller by the camera shots and movements used. Restricted shots were used to not let the audience view the characters face. This would make the audience feel that this face we cant see going to be a antagonist in the film and long shot to show the physical muscular shape of the antagonists shadow as he walks in front of his lights. The movements made when walking from the light was very slow which created an impression that he was up to something suspicious the use of the protagonist movement we saw were very innocent and relaxed. We saw also that it was a thriller from the setting used in the film. Where by the protagonist a female with her baby in the car is driving down a rural outback area on her own. Mise en scene used to suggest shes alone and no help to support her in a quiet area. This is a stereotypical charater which is used in thrillers to suggest a innocent person will be a victim of some sort. By the way the female was acting in the car as the male protagonist approached the car. enigma codes used when the protagonist seemed Very intimidated and afraid of him as when he is standing at her car window. It showed he had physical power over her from the was she was sitting down and he was standing up. The way diegetic sound was used by the was the males voice was very low and deep to show he wants to hide his identity, hear theres tension in his voice especially when he makes the comment about him not knowing she had the baby in the car. This created a lot of tension and suspense as they sat silent in the car for a few seconds. The enigma codes used from the characters clothing as as the antagonist was dressed in very dark dull colours which suggested a sort of evilness about him. where as the protagonist was in a white coloured with flowery dress with  a green cardigan. so the colour green suggested goodness with this female character. Also the colour used for the antagonist car was red. The colour red suggest danger, warning, death or some sort of blood. The theatre of the mind was used in the film when was when there was a restricted shot of the antagonist which made the audience to see what he was wearing and to try and picture the characters face and expression when speaking to the protagonist. The sub genre of this thriller is crime thriller.
