Analysis of Thriller Openings

JFK

Sound: very army type sound(drums), explanation of the narrative, trumpits as in a victorious theme tune.

Camera: black and white shots

Mise-en-scene: strong bold fonts and real news footage

Editing: montage editing of the different clips put together and continuety editing

Conventions: death of JFK, the settings of the begining to show it was a sort of rememberance day.

Silence Of The Lambs

Sound: up tempo non diegetic

camera: 180 degree shot used when climbing, establishing shot, tracking shot when she was running, close up of face to make us see she was young and sweaty.

mise-en-scene: symbolie that in the words. a man towards her, very fogy, mystorious and shes a detective from the jacket.

lighting: grey lighting

conventions: setting


Cape Fear (old version)

Sound: very taunting music, non diegetic sound was important about the story,ocestral music used which was very intense.

Camera: long shot of camera focusing on character which is tracking shots. creates impression of power.

Mise-en-scene: studio cleonal buildings with the plants. Building seemed very professional. It seem to be hot as main character was wearing white summer clothing.

Editing: samitanious action, had very heavy sound with editing. continuety editing it had slow links to the music.

Conventions: enigma codes open narrative creating suspense and tension.


Cape Fear( new version)

Sound: orestral music makes it very intense. thunder and rainfall suggest danger is coming.

Special effects: The use of the water to link with the name of the film as a a cape is a river in america. the special effects were used by CGI.

Camera: close up of girls eyes to symbolise fear. mid restricted shot of a male body shadow. extreme close up.

Mise-en-scene: water was used to link to the name of film. Eagle flying over the river suggest death as its a bird or prey. The size of the mans hands being used for intimidation.
